JIPA Delegation to EPO and German Patent Office

Some members of Trilateral Industry Meeting Committee, led by Mr. Okumura who is a Vice-President of JIPA, went to EPO and German Patent Office in Munich, Germany on May 16, 2011, for exchanging opinions. JIPA caught an opportunity of the participation of the Trilateral Users Meeting held on May 17, 2011, and sent this delegation.

At EPO, JIPA delegation met Mr. Battistelli of EPO President and other EPO members. JIPA delegation explained action program of JIPA for the harmonization of the patent system and exchanged opinions about improvement of the Patent Quality, PCT, PPH and others. The meeting was carried out with a congenial atmosphere from beginning to end.
EPO President showed his thought that the exchange of opinions with the user was extremely important for drafting and carrying out the measure of the EPO. Also, EPO President showed that he would like to give an exchange of opinions with JIPA continuously, and JIPA welcomed his proposal.

At the German Patent Office, JIPA delegation met Dr. Schneider who is Head of Department 1/Ⅱ, Patent Ⅱ, Mr. Krueger who is Head of Division 4.3, Legal Division, International Relations and other members. JIPA delegation explained PPH and the description requirements, and exchanged opinions about these. The German Patent Office side was shown to have been useful exchange of opinions, and to welcome a continuous visit of JIPA in future.
