Meeting with KIPO Commissioner

Eight officers from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), including Mr. Kim Ho-Won, Commissioner, and Dr. Kwun Kui-Wou, Director of the International Cooperation Division, visited JIPA on December 17, 2012, to exchange opinions on the two countries¡Ç IP issues. From JIPA side, President Okumura, Vice President Osonoe, Executive Managing Director Kuji, and secretariat members greeted them.

Since it was the first time for Commissioner of KIPO to visit JIPA office, an explanation on JIPA's organization and activities were given, and then Commissioner Kim explained about the current IP situation in South Korea. In his explanation, Commissioner Kim said, ¡ÈThese days, the opinions of IP users have become important in determining IP policy. In South Korea, efforts to improve the technical abilities of the Korea Intellectual Property Association (KINPA) as a user organization have been expedited. Considering that it is appropriate to have a similar relationship with KINPA as JPO with JIPA, KIPO has KINPA financially independent this year. In order to harmonize our systems with those in Europe and North America, we believe that it will certainly be beneficial for JIPA to collaborate with Korean users, and hope that JIPA will work with KINPA as well.¡É

Taking into account future efforts to promote international harmonization of IP systems such as IP5, JIPA concluded its meeting after expressing their approval of KIPO¡Çs offering.
