The 12th Trilateral User Meeting

On November 11, 2009, the 12th Trilateral Users Meeting was held with representatives from American Intellectual Property Law Association AIPLA), Intellectual Property Owners (IPO), BusinessEurope, and JIPA. This meeting has held twice a year since 2003, when JIPA had proposed to set up a forum for discussion to resolve common problems.

There were 13 attendees from Europe and United States in spite of recent difficult economic situation. This seems to be a proof of our interest in patent systemic harmonization.

This meeting discussed measures for achieving Harmonization among systems of all user countries, ,Common Citation Document, PCT reform, Patent Prosecution Highway, Patent Quality, and the cooperation among JIPA, IPO, AIPLA, BusinessEurope, Chinese IP NGO, and Korean IP NGO, namely IP5 concept.

On the next day, November 12, the Trilateral Offices - Users Meeting was held at Kyoto International Community House. They had a talks aimed at a achieve user- friendly IP system. The Offices expressed their intention to promote ¡ÈHarmonization¡É and the Users indicated that they willingly cooperate and support to achieve the ¡ÈHarmonzation¡É The next meeting will be held in United States in next spring.
