2015 INDIA Delegation to Delhi and ChennaiThe JIPA Asia PJ sent a 6-member delegation led by Managing Director Hirokazu Bessho from Honda to Delhi and Chennai, India during February 23 to 27, 2015. They visited the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (MCIDIPP), Copyright Office, the Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi, the India IP Study Group (IPG), TACT India, etc. in Delhi, and the Chennai Patent Office, the JETRO Chennai Office, etc. in Chennai.
At the MCIDIPP, they made asked for improvement in the Indian IP system as well as asked for promotion of trademark examination while showing examples of delayed trademark examination collected from JIPA member companies. At the Copyright Office, they learned on the registration procedures and usage of copyright. At the Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi, they heard the status of cooperation with companies and IP issues involved in joint researches. At the India IPG, they learned about the latest issues through the exchange of views with local Japanese expatriates and understood what the expatriates expected JIPA to do. At TACT India, they received answers to JIPA's questions regarding the procedure for detecting counterfeit goods and had some discussions.
At the Chennai Patent Office, they asked questions about the examination process. At the JETRO Chennai office, they received a lecture on the characteristics of industry at Chennai and exchanged opinions.
The Asia PJ has visited 4 large cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai) where there are major patent offices, in the last 3 years, and continually carried out major investigations of Indian IP and requested improvement in its system. Particularly for the improvement in its system, we realized that full-scale activities toward amendment to some items thereof are under way.
