WIPO GREEN Seminar in Manila, Philippines

On 23 and 24 April 2015, a seminar was held at the Asian Development Bank”Ēs HQ in Manila (Philippines), dedicated to WIPO GREEN”Ēs pilot project on wastewater treatment in South-East Asia. Participants discussed the project, share experiences, and were able to proactively network with one another.

From JIPA, Mr. Yorimasa Suwa (Assistant Leader of WIPO Project in JIPA) was invited to the seminar as the founder of this project. He made a lecture introducing the original scope of this project at the plenary session and also made another presentation on the wastewater treatment technologies of Japanese companies which have been registered to WIPO GREEN database, at the Technology Solutions session.

Thanks to a grant from the Government of Japan, WIPO GREEN has been running a pilot project on wastewater treatment in Indonesia, Viet Nam, and the Philippines. The project involves local consultants working in tandem with relevant stakeholders (industry associations, government institutions, university bodies, technology companies, and financial institutions) to identify needs for wastewater technologies in these countries. After the technology needs were identified, WIPO GREEN had worked to find corresponding technology providers, who uploaded their technologies to the WIPO GREEN database.

Technology seekers, technology owners, and relevant stakeholders from the financial and regulatory sphere were all invited to the seminar. Organized in cooperation with the ADB, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), and the Japan Patent Office, the event was able to serve as a chance to make further network of stakeholders for green technology transfer in this area.
