Exchanges opinions with Judge Linn of CAFC and US legal profession

On June 23, 2015, Mr. Richard Linn, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC), Mr. Harold C. Wegner, attorney at law (former IP professor at George Washington University, US), Mr. David J. Kappos, attorney at law (ex-USPTO Commissioner), Mr. Robert L. Stoll (ex-USPTO Patent Commissioner) visited JIPA.

From JIPA, the Software Committee including Chairperson Sakurai (Ricoh), members of the First International Affairs Committee, and the Secretariat welcomed and responded to the guests. The Committees introduced articles recently posted by the First International Affairs Committee and the Software Committee, for example on comparison among IP5 countries of the frequency of the occurrence of rejections due to lack of unity, which is under consideration by IP5, and statistical situations of the results of re-examination in the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), which is supposed to be promising as measures against patent trolls, and exchanged opinions with the guests. We got a lot of comments thereon from the above authoritative people in the United States. During the exchange of opinions, they had much interest in the research results of the Committees, and encouraged the Committee members to transmit those and future articles on international mechanisms and statistics in English to the world.
