Opinion Exchange with American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA)

On April 22, 2009, 28 members of Japan IP Practice Committee, The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), including Chairperson Ms. Teresa Rea, came to JIPA to have the annual opinion exchange. JIPA Vice-President, Mr. Naito, Ex-President, Mr. Usui and other 13 people attended the meeting from JIPA.

At the meeting, Mr. Ueno of Managing Director introduced ¡ÈCommunity Patent Review Updated in JAPAN¡É, Mr. Shobayashi of Industrial Trilateral Project introduced ¡ÈPatent Prosecution Highway¡É and Mr. Naito introduced ¡ÈRecent Developments in JAPAN¡É. Four presentations; ¡ÈDiscovery in U.S. litigation¡É, ¡ÈBest practices in managing global portfolio & outside counsel in the present economic environment¡É, ¡ÈEastern District of Texas Venue Decision¡É and ¡ÈInternational Trade Commission Practice¡É were done from AIPLA side.

Japan IP Practice Committee of AIPLA monitors and studies intellectual property issues in Japan. JIPA and AIPLA introduced a lot of number of topics, we were pressed for time in completing all presentations. Even though the discussion was not enough, this meeting provides JIPA and AIPLA good opportunity to know the latest IP information mutually
