[Theme] Drastic Business Innovation! The 4th Industrial Revolution and Intellectual Property
- Let’s Think about the New Business and IP in the IoT, Big Data, and AI Era –

The world is entering into the era of Drastic Business Innovation brought about by the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Government of Japan is also trying to tackle a revolution in the industrial structure including the IP system through the means of planning Japan's strategy in the “New Industrial Structure Vision”. It is necessary for us to have a clear understanding how the industrial society should respond to this situation and what the future IP system should be.
In this symposium, we would like to perceive how the 4th Industrial Revolution will make progress and think about the future of business development, the IP system corresponding to it and the way the IP strategy in the industry society ought to be.

“The Data-driven Interconnected World and its Influence on the IPR System”
Innovation driven by the latest technology such as Big Data Analysis, IoT and AI will promote the growth of the currently stagnant world economy and potentially help in changing the economic society. The challenges and opportunities inherent in change towards the interconnected real and virtual worlds seem to have a big influence on the IPR system. In this keynote lecture, we will be addressed with information on important factors related to thinking about the future way of the IPR system which correspond to such actual changes.

“The 4th Industrial Revolution and IP System”
Under the 4th Industrial Revolution, during which the volume of data grows through the utilization of AI and IoT and technology for processing the data develops rapidly, new data assets are appearing one after another. Currently, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) with the cooperation of relevant departments, is investigating the ways corporate strategies of management and IP (including standardization strategies etc.) which correspond to such economic and social circumstance, as well the IP system and operations which support strategic action. The efforts of METI including the above-stated ones will be introduced in the lecture.

“The Situation around AI and the Approach by AIST”
The trend of promoting the 4th Industrial Revolution, the value created by AI from Big Data, the possibilities for business and the way of IP will be introduced in the lecture from the perspective of the "Department of Information Technology and Human Factors, AIST".

“Making Effective Use of Cloud Services and Creating New Business in the AI Era”
As AI is attracting attention, it is time to think about how to utilize the AI and cloud services in business. While introducing the efforts to reform new ways of work devised by Google in the AI era in which our work style changes, some examples of Google's internal cases and the latest technology will be introduced in the lecture.
