WIPO CONFERENCE ON DEVELOPMENT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

From September 1, 2008 to 3rd, ”WIPO CONFERENCE ON DEVELOPMENT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY - BUILDING SYNERGIES WITH POLICY MAKERS AND INDUSRTY ...” was held under WIPO and India Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at Goa, India. The Conference was attended by representatives from the companies and the Government of India, ASEAN, Japan, and Korea besides WIPO officers. Mr. Koumoto of Nissan Motors (JIPA Managing Director), Mr. Ti of Nissan Motors, and Mr. Doi of JIPA Secretary General attended the Meeting.

This conference was held as a part of WIPO’s IP enlightenment program for developing countries. JIPA has cooperate fully with this activity as well as last year’s ”JAPAN-WIPO-ASEAN-Forum” which was held at Tokyo, Japan. Invited speakers made presentations on the role of IP in each industry, IP issues to solve, government efforts on IP, WIPO-ASEAN cooperation and so on.

JIPA Managing Director, Mr. Koumoto(NISSAN MOTORS) talked on NISSAN’S IP Strategy among Session 8“The Use of IP in the Automotive Sector”and JIPA Secretary General, Mr.Doi talked on The role of IP system for industry / technology development in (ii)Industry Perspective”among Session 3“IP Strategies to Enhance Competitiveness.”These two presentations were well received.

India weaves the most advanced Technology, like software with backward economic and social base. This makes the country.Large potential of Indian market is very temping one, however, there are still many problems to be resolved before inviting foreign companies to enter in to Indian market. IP infrastructure construction is indispensable for Japanese company to move seriously into the business in India.

JIPA has send delegations in Asian countries every year to request further improvement of their IP system as well as to exchange opinion through interaction. With these steady efforts, JIPA has become widely known in Asian IP related organs. During this conference, Mr. Koumoto and Mr. Doi met up again with their old friends and also befriended some attendees. As well as delegation dispatch, to attend meetings as a part of supportive activities are also the effective assistance to developing countries.

WIPO plans to have such meeting continuously in ASEAN countries almost every year. JIPA is happy to cooperate in any future events for helping ASEAN courtiers, because JIPA recognize this would be help to JIPA member companies who want to expand their presence around the world.
