1.About the Mini Seminar
Since July 2020, JIPA has offered video lectures by overseas associate members. In response to requests for more in-person opportunities, JIPA began holding this mini seminar in a hybrid format last year. This seminar provides a valuable opportunity to share the latest IP developments from various jurisdictions with JIPA members in a live setting. Seminar topics have been selected with the cooperation of JIPA committee members, reflecting areas of strong interest to Japanese companies and IP practitioners.
The seminar will be held in a hybrid format, so participants may join either on site at JIPA Tokyo or online via Teams. For those attending in person, the coffee break will offer a relaxed opportunity to exchange views with JIPA members, speakers, and other overseas associate members. We hope this will also serve as a friendly networking opportunity beyond the presentations themselves. We warmly welcome your participation.

3.2nd Program and Time Schedule
Please see here for details.
At the second seminar, overseas associate members from China, Korea, Germany, the United States, and Brazil will present the latest developments and practical approaches in their respective jurisdictions. Participants will have the opportunity to compare examination practices for parameter-defined inventions and inventions involving numerical limitations in China and Korea, including the assessment of novelty and inventive step. The program will also address practical issues of particular interest to IP professionals, such as building patent portfolios for AI-related inventions in China in light of the challenges associated with enforcement, as well as current patterns of utility model use by Chinese and foreign companies and effective strategies for utilizing utility models in China. Other topics will include patent filing, prosecution, and portfolio strategies in response to changes in the U.S. economic and political environment; pharmaceutical patent litigation strategies involving national courts and the UPC; comprehensive IP protection for K-content in Korea; and anti-counterfeiting measures and the use of preliminary injunctions in Brazil. Covering the full IP lifecycle, from obtaining rights to enforcing them, the seminar will provide a broad range of practical insights directly relevant to international IP practice.
