Association Overview

What Is the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA)?

JIPA is a comprehensive private-sector organization engaged in intellectual property activities, established in 1938.

It is composed of approximately 1,400 members involved in intellectual property from a wide range of perspectives, including companies of various industries and sizes such as Japan’s manufacturing and service sectors, as well as universities and research institutions in academia, and overseas patent and law firms.

JIPA promotes a wide range of initiatives with the high objective of contributing to the development of Japanese industry through the effective use of intellectual property. These initiatives include making proposals to government authorities and international organizations regarding the improvement and operation of intellectual property systems in Japan and around the world, so that such systems remain sound and appropriate for promoting business activities and innovation among its members.

In addition, through various events, programs, and activities within its communities, JIPA plays a major role as one of Japan’s largest intellectual property platforms, enabling members to exchange opinions and information and build strong networks.

Basic Policy

  1. Enhance the effectiveness of JIPA’s activities and contribute to the management of member companies
  2. Improve governance and strengthen the organizational foundation
  3. Increase member satisfaction

This fiscal year as well, JIPA aims to continue sharing its IP vision with the world. Furthermore, while remaining mindful of the values set forth in last year’s activity policy (the two “Gs”: Global and Green, and the two “Ds”: Digital and Diversity), we will continue to address the following challenges.
